Assisting the Guard during these uncertain times

For those following along, we have “adopted” Charlie Co., 1st Battalion, 112th Aviation Det 2 assigned to Army Aviation Support Facility #2 (AASF-2) at Pangborn.  Our Post and Auxiliary members do what we can to support these troops and their families throughout the year.

Since these full-time troops are part of the National Guard, they depend on their Guard Headquarters to pay them from federal funds. Due to the current government shutdown, this pay has been cut off, causing undue stress and strain on these servicemembers. So we stepped up and did what we can to help out.

Last weekend, we provided over $3,000 in diapers and supplies for young soldiers raising a new family. These diapers were collected by our VFW Auxiliary members during Operation BOTTOM COVER over the past couple months. Normally these diapers would have been delivered at the Holiday party in early December, but they needed these supplies NOW so waiting wasn’t an option.

Additionally, our Post donated $2,000 in Winco gift cards to help them with groceries.  And on Wednesday, we’re delivering $600 in gas cards to help the junior enlisted troops assigned to the unit with their transportation costs.

This shutdown doesn’t yet have an end in sight, so we will continue to do what we can to fully support these men and women in uniform as they work without pay.

If you’d like to help in this effort, you are welcome to make a donation to our Post and we will ensure it is used specifically in support of our Adopted Unit.

  1. Sharing a comment received from Joe Wright, State Adjutant:

“On behalf of Commander James and the Department of Washington Veterans of Foreign Wars, I want to extend our deepest gratitude for the compassion, leadership, and decisive action your Post has shown during this difficult federal shutdown. Your swift response to support the soldiers of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 112th Aviation reflects the very best of what it means to be a VFW Post.

“Your dedication, providing food, fuel, and essential baby supplies to our junior enlisted soldiers and their families, exemplifies the VFW mission of “No One Does More for Veterans.” You have not only offered relief to those struggling but also renewed hope and community spirit for the entire Wenatchee Valley.

“It is clear that your Post operates with both heart and purpose. By coordinating with county Veteran Service Officers and continuing to plan for sustained assistance, you are ensuring no soldier or veteran is left behind. Acts of generosity like yours remind us all why the VFW exists—to stand together when times are hardest.

“Thank you for leading by example and demonstrating the true meaning of comradeship, service, and community. The Department could not be prouder of your commitment to our shared mission.”

    With sincere appreciation and respect,
    Joe Wright
    State Adjutant
    Department of Washington
