Remembering Those Lost at Sea

As we do every year on Memorial Day, we have a ceremony specifically to honor those military members who were lost at sea. In year’s passed, this was held on the Black Pedestrian Bridge that crosses the Columbia River.

However due to ongoing construction at both ends of that bridge this year, the Patriotic Council (the group of organizations responsible for planning and executing our Memorial Day events) decided to start a new event at the Boat Launch Area behind Pybus Public Market where more visitors would be able to attend.

This ceremoney included the Wenatchee High School Air Force JROTC cadets presenting the Colors followed by an invocation by Chaplain Simonson. Next, a ceremonial wreath was placed into the Columbia River by Mayors Mike Poirier (Wenatchee) and Jerrilea Crawford (East Wenatchee) accompanied by a solemn rendition of “God Be With You” sung by Christy Robinson. Finally, the resident bugler rendered Taps before the Colors were retired.

It was a small, short ceremony, but it was well attended and greatly appreciated. Post member Tony Warren streamed the ceremony on Facebook while Adutant Hill took the photos shared below.
