Summer Picnic at the Hangar

As if we didn’t have enough going on locally this weekend between the National Commander-in-Chief visiting for our Department Convention, we were ALSO busy hosting the annual summer picnic for our Adopted Unit, Charlie Co., 1st Battalion, 112th Aviation Security & Support, at their building near Pangborn Airport.

Every year, the National Guard members must complete two weeks of intense training to hone skills, complete qualifications, and maintain mission-readiness. Our local unit schedules this in the summer and wraps up the training time with a large Family Picnic.

On Saturday morning, 5 Post members and 6 Auxiliary members were on hand to prepare and serve a fabulous lunch for everyone in attendance. We turned on the burners to cook hamburgers and brats, and brought in a host of sides along with all the fixin’s. We served close to 125 Guard members and their families that day.

It was a fitting winddown for the end of their summer training – You could feel the relief and comradery at the banquet tables. We sent them home well fed and toting leftovers.

Thank you to all the Post and Auxiliary members who helped make this possible, and to Steve Johnson for the recap and Tony Warren for the photos.
