Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. While most commonly recognized as a day to learn about the history of our flag, it is also often used as a day to respectfully and ceremoniously retire old, faded, frayed flags and those otherwise no longer fit for flying.
Here at Post 3617, we have been collecting such flags in our dropbox out front, saving them for a time when we could again gather and host a proper Retirement Ceremony.
This past Sunday, we joined forces with the American Legion Post 10, Combat Veterans International motorcycle group, and the Pangborn Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol to host a flag retirement ceremony at Trinity United Methodist Church in East Wenatchee. [Photos by Kim Pieratt]
Additionally, 2 members of our Auxiliary thought it would be nice to decorate our Post Home for flag day. On Monday, President Shirley Lance and member Dee Johnson lined our property with a number of flags so that all who drive by would be reminded of the holiday. [Photos by Steve Johnson]
