Quilts of Valor presentation

Logo for Quilts of Valor Foundation.Quilts of Valor are patriotic quilts that are lovingly crafted by volunteers and gifted to a Veteran or Service Member. The mission of the Quilts of Valor® Foundation is to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Since 2003, over 350,000 Quilts have been crafted and gifted, changing lives for the better.

While anyone can create a patriotic quilt and gift it to a Veteran, the term Quilt of Valor® is a registered trademark, owned and protected by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Quilts of Valor® Foundation. Any quilt created under this program will have an official QOV plate included, and an official certificate accompanies the quilt when gifted.

Here at the Wenatchee Valley VFW Post 3617, we were honored to have an official Quilts of Valor® presentation recently. Cindy Hoover, WA State Coordinator for QOVF, and Carol Cade, Leavenworth Chapter lead, joined us for Friday morning coffee on April 7th to present a Quilt to our very own Tony Warren. We had over 30 people at coffee that day, so I think Tony felt both appreciated and comforted greatly by this caring gesture.

On the same day, Auxiliary member Judi Ebi, also a member of the NCW Quilt Guild, made a similar presentation to Past Commander Larry Severin. While not an official QOVF representative, and therefore not an official QOV quilt, it was still lovingly created and generously gifted to a deserving veteran and a dedicated and loyal Post member.

There is not currently a Wenatchee Valley chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, but both Chelan and Leavenworth have small, dedicated teams of volunteers who work to create gorgeous quilts and are accepting nominations for quilt recipients. There may be a Wenatchee branch forming soon, if there is interest and available leadership.

If you would like to know more about the Quilts of Valor Foundation, how to submit a Veteran you know to receive one, or you’re interested in joining a local group, you can reach out to Cindy Hoover via email at cindy.hoover@qovf.org or phone at 360.280.3998 and she will do her best to answer your questions.
