Spreading Valentine’s Cheer

Through 4 different efforts, members of our Auxiliary brought a lot of cheer to veterans for Valentine’s Day this year.

One member, Dee, coordinated with Grace Lutheran church to create and gift about 130 Valentines to frontline COVID workers at our local hospital.

Auxiliary President Shirley Lance received over 200 handmade valentines from students at Rock Island School. She sent these (along with some candy for the staff) over to the Washington Soldier’s Home in Orting.

Another member, Bicky, hand-wrote out valentines and added Poppies to them before sending about 85 to the Soldier’s Home in Orting as well as about 45 to local assisted living facility Regency.

Also, crafty member Carol hand-made about 120 valentines. Slightly less than half went to local assisted living facility Bonaventure, while the rest were mailed out to a number of our Post members. Many of the recipients were surprised and delighted to have been thought of, and sent their appreciation back in the form of text messages, phone calls, and thank you notes.

Through these combined efforts, our Auxiliary members sent out over 450 Valentines! Thank you ladies for raising everyone’s spirits at a time when so many are feeling distanced and burned out. We appreciate you!
